‘Imagined landscapes’ on display at Pew Gallery

Grove City College’s Gallery at Pew Fine Arts Center will present the work of area artist Nicole Renee Ryan in “The Place and the Un-place: Memories of Memories.”

The show in the Gallery on campus runs through Nov. 17. Regular gallery hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. An artist’s reception is set from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Ryan, of Mercer, Pa., is a painter and muralist. This exhibit features her “imagined landscapes.”

“These emotionally charged but ambiguous images of places are based on my memories, as they get further and further removed from reality. Parts of the landscapes shift and become their own active subject, playing, moving and breaking away,” Ryan said in a statement about the show. “My goal is to recreate a place I feel I was at once, but can’t quite remember, a place that is not a single moment but a compilation of different memories stretching forward and backwards.”
