College hosts major music federation festival

Grove City College’s Department of Music will host the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Regional Music Festival on Saturday, March 10 in the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

Federation festivals provide an opportunity for music students in grades K-12 to perform for a panel of professional musicians and receive a rating and written evaluation. In addition to the solo division, students may perform hymns, patriotic songs, duets and concertos, as well as take a music theory examination.

This is the sixteenth year that Grove City has hosted the event. Each year, approximately 350 students participate, many of them in multiple event categories. Forty music teachers from the Pittsburgh area serve as judges, assisted by more than 20 Grove City College student volunteers.

Adjudications are closed to the public, but throughout the day some students will perform their festival pieces in an informal event in Arnold Recital Hall. The public is welcome to take in their performances between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Festival is coordinated by Dr. Beverly Carter, professor and chair of the Department of Music Department of Music at Grove City College.
