A night at the opera with the college orchestra

The Grove City College Department of Music presents “A Night at the Opera” with the College Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The concert will feature music with several operatic themes. Some of the works presented include: “Russlan and Ludmilla Overture” by Glinka and selections from “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Colton Henry ’16, Jersey Shore, Pa., student conductor, will conduct Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture” with the Orchestra.

Concerto winners Jonathan Hoyt ’16, Pottstown, Pa., and Luke Leone ’18, Camp Hill, Pa., will present their works with the College Orchestra. Hoyt will perform the first movement of the Piano Concerto No. 2 in F, Op. 102 by Dmitri Shostakovich. Leone will perform “Hai gia vinta la causa... Vedro mentr’io sospiro” from Le Nozze Di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

“This concert will be a great evening of music and will allow Grove City College students to shine as soloists and conductors. Since it is Valentine’s Day weekend, it will also be a wonderful chance to go to the opera without driving all the way to Pittsburgh or Cleveland,” said Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, Director of Orchestras for Grove City College.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m.
