Grove City College Newman Club voted one of the best

Grove City College’s Newman Club has been voted one of “The 50 Best College Newman Centers” in the country by Best College Reviews.

“One of the things that has continually impressed me about Grove City College’s Newman Club in my ten years of working with them is the close community they enjoy with one another,” says Devayani Wintrode, director of Campus Ministries at the College. “It is evident that they care deeply for one another and want to welcome others into that community.”

The Newman Club at Grove City College was ranked number 28 by Best College Reviews. It is dedicated to educating students of all faith traditions who are interested in the Catholic faith. Their desire is to answer questions from all students so that they may have been an authentic understanding of the Catholic Church and its teachings. In addition to providing answers for inquiring students, the Newman Club offers fellowship and community for Catholic students. They offer regular Mass and rides to Mass, book clubs, dinners, social events and regular meetings. The Newman Club is affiliated with the Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

The club’s outreach extends beyond campus. “For the last several years, a couple of members of Newman Club have led and participated on an Inner City Outreach trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where they volunteer at the Sisters of Divine Providence convent,” says club President Rebecca McLaughlin ’16, of Glenshaw, Pa.

Newman Centers are named after the 19th century English intellectual and Catholic convert, John Henry Newman, whose work, “The Idea of a University,” is still studied today. Newman Centers function as a place for young Catholics to further religious ideals and goals through prayer, study, religious services, community service and relationship-building activities.
